The origin of the Indongjang clan

The settlement of the Indong Jang clan on Banwol Island began with the founder Geumyong. It started with the move-in of his grandfather, who was born 400 years ago in Indong, Gyeongsangbukdo, as the 23rd son of the founder Geumyong. At that time, he was fascinated by the feng shui theory and was interested in the rare condition of a temple on the island, regardless of the fact that it was not as magnificent as the land. Therefore, he settled down on the island, becoming the source of the present-day 張(Jang) clan.

Starting with the founder Geumyong, the Jang clan’s generation was passed down to 38th year. Thanks to the founder’s feng shui theory of Banwol Island, its branch being 凰顙派(Hwangsang branch), living a relatively abundant life among the 32 villages with many brothers and sisters living all over the country, it is said that they return home with glory.
Since 1990, every year on March, 15th, brothers and sisters living all over the country, have gathered together and performed an ancestral ceremony at the sacrificial pavilion built in this area. The founder’s grave, located in the best propitious site, was buried in the middle of the site. There are 3 or 4 Indong 張(Jang) clan monuments.
